For me, Summer is a magical time of year. It’s when our kids are out of school, when most people take vacations, and a time to enjoy the outdoors. It’s time to explore things you love to do. It is a time for reflection and always makes me think about what sets my soul on fire. What I know for sure is that travel sets my soul on fire. I love traveling so much because when one travels, it’s impossible to come back the same person… It humbles me. There is no better teacher.
I’m traveling this summer for five weeks with my daughter. We are sampling different cultures while we work, play and pray through Istanbul, Madrid, London, Dublin, Berlin, and Barcelona.
I’m on a speaking tour in Madrid, London, and Berlin. On a play tour in Istanbul, Ireland, and Barcelona and a pray tour each and every day. To me pray includes meditation, reflection, and gratitude.
When I travel I spend time creating, re-inventing myself and reflecting on my life. I take the keys and unlock the self-imposed prison of my limitations and let go. I let go of what I think are my limitations of what I can and cannot do. I re-write my contract with reality. What is possible for me. I try and shift out of the things I’ve come to believe in by someone else from the past. I love what Anthony Bourdain says about travel:
“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”
I always leave something behind otherwise you’re a tourist, instead of a traveler.
